During my time as a teacher I recognized that many children in the local community don't have opportunities to play outside or connect in a safe social setting outside of school. These children are forced to stay indoors in fear for their safety and, therefore, spend most of their afternoons on a screen or finding other ways to keep themselves occupied. I have always dreamed of building a facility where I can provide holistic coaching - a safe space for people of all ages to be a part of something bigger. That dream will take some time, but in the meantime I'd like to support the incredible work done by the Waves for Change community.
Myself and a fellow teacher, Jonathan Raphael, are on a mission to raise R50 000 for WFC by cycling 250km on a mountain bike, from Noordhoek (Southern Peninsula) to Noordhoek (Veldrift) in one go.
250 is a significant number - it costs R250 for one surf therapy lesson per child, By raising R50 000, we'll be providing 200 surf therapy sessions to children in underprivileged areas, thereby getting them outside, moving and in an environment that supports their growth.
A Moerse Long Cycle is taking place on 22 June 2024.
